ABOUT ME

@huiportrait.com
Hi, I’m Hui — a Chinese woman who has lived and worked in Europe for over twenty years. I come from a background in strategic project management and intercultural collaboration, but my true passion has always been people: their stories, their contradictions, their beauty — seen and unseen.
As a child, I was immersed in the world of traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting. Teachers and family praised my sensitivity and artistic expression, but as I grew older, I followed a more conventional path — into business and international work, as my parents hoped. Though I achieved professional success, something essential remained quietly dormant.
Since 2016, I’ve returned to painting — this time with full presence and choice. My focus is on portraiture, because the human face moves me like nothing else. It holds memory, truth, and longing. To me, a portrait is not just a visual image — it’s a psychological and emotional mirror, a moment of connection between two inner worlds: mine and the sitter’s.
I’m also deeply interested in philosophy, especially in how love, conflict, and meaning shape human lives. Over the years, I’ve explored psychology and relationships alongside my creative work, and I’ve come to see these three fields — art, psychology, and philosophy — as inseparable.
This website is not just a gallery of my portraits. It is a personal expression of my worldview: that beauty lies in presence, that every face tells a story, and that art can help us see ourselves — and one another — more clearly.
If my work resonates with you, I’d love for you to share it or get in touch. This is a space for depth, connection, and meaning — the values I hold most dear.
If you like my blog and my philosophy, please check out my work and share my website with your friends. ☺️
