Hui has maintained a longstanding interest in art since childhood. She received early training in Chinese calligraphy and traditional ink painting, experiences that fostered a sensitive visual awareness and continue to inform her artistic perspective.
Although she initially pursued a career in business in line with family expectations, her connection to art remained. In recent years, she has returned to painting with renewed focus, establishing portraiture as the central thread of her practice.
Alongside her portrait practice, she continues to explore how the traditions of Chinese calligraphy and ink painting can be translated into contemporary painting, incorporating their visual language into landscape and abstract works to expand the possibilities of narrative and emotional expression.

Artistic Style
Her work moves between realism and impressionism, using acrylic and water-mixable oil paints to construct a narrative visual language.
She captures the small, quiet moments of everyday life, echoing the words of the American writer Kurt Vonnegut:
“Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you’ll look back and realise that they were the big things.”
This sensibility is reflected in her attention to fleeting moments, through which emotion and inner experience are revealed.
For her, a portrait is not merely about likeness, but about capturing emotion and personality. Painting becomes a means of self-exploration and understanding others, creating a subtle yet enduring connection between subject and viewer. Her colour palette centres on warm tones, particularly orange, symbolising vitality and emotional warmth, balanced by cooler blues that introduce a sense of calm and tension within the composition.
