Blog 8: Love Fengshui Tip: Make Space for What you really Want

As the new year begins we all have new hopes and dreams. With regard to love many of my single friends are eager to meet their future partner while the other friends wish for better and more harmonic relationships with their partner and friends. Above all I believe that we all want positive changes and nice things happen in our lives.

However, have you thought about whether you are really prepared for the positive changes in life to occur? You might have a nice fresh image with a new haircut and trendy clothes. But have you made space for what you really want, no matter if it is a person or a matter? Have you looked around your home and asked yourself if you really feel comfortable and happy with all the things you have? Are there any things you really want to throw away but haven’t had the time or mood to do yet? Are there any things which are difficult to get rid of because they are attached to your past? To attract what we really need we first have to say bye to the  things which have had significant meaning for us in the past, no matter how hard it is. Otherwise they will always be a barrier for us to move on and get what we want. (Read about my own experience in blog 4: Teddy from Ex.)

If you do not understand why it is so important to get rid of the things from the past and why they prevent you from moving on, think about a paper which is already full of drawings. How can you then draw a wonderful new plan without erasing the parts you want to change? If the water in the glass is already muddy, how can you fill it with fresh water without polluting it?

If you have difficulty deciding what to throw away and what to keep, I can recommend an interesting book from a Japanese tidying and organising expert, Marie Kondo, „The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up“ . Mrs. Kondo wrote in her book that “The best way to find out what we really need is to get rid of what we don’t.“ And people should “Discard anything that doesn’t spark joy.” A lot of people have significantly changed their lives having used her methods of tidying up.

While getting rid of the things of the past and making space for your dreams, you also need to mentally let the past go.

I once saw a documentary about a mandala ceremony in Tibet. During the ceremony, the Tibetan monks spent a few months constructing Mandalas* with coloured sand. When the “Painting“ was finished, the monks prayed over it and then they destroyed it. Through the ceremony Tibetan buddhism sent the message that nothing is permanent and the past does not exist.

So you can also perform a small “ceremony“ to purify your thoughts and make space by deleting your unpleasant memories. A simple and effective method is to briefly write down your old memories and negative emotions on a piece of paper and then to use a pen to cross the words out and throw it away.

After clearing out old memories and objects from the past which are holding you back you can finally move on and realise your dreams.
